One of the highlights of the English basketball calendar, the Annual Volunteer Awards Function, was held for the fifth time on Saturday 11 September at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham. The event provides an opportunity to honour and recognise those people who volunteer their services on a local, regional and national scale throughout England.

Volunteer Administrator of the Year – Ramas Rentelis (London Lions)presented by Alison Muir, Chair of England Basketball
Ramas Rentelis has established himself as a role model in deaf sports, being a deaf person himself. Current president of Deaf Basketball UK and the Deaf International Basketball Federation Eurozone, Ramas organises deaf basketball for children throughout London and is the founder of the London Lions deaf basketball team. He has also introduced UK deaf basketball to the international scene, having organised tournaments here in the UK and taking the London Lions to competitions throughout Europe. We thank Kim Brierly and Tariq Mahmood for attending the Awards Function in their roles as interpreters for Ramas and his nominator, Robert Adam.
